Qualifications & Requirements:
Impact Physiotherapy & Performance is pleased to welcome Athletic Therapist Caitlin Fegan to the Impact team. Caitlin will be offering Saturday appointments from 10am-1pm at our Fergus location for assessments and treatment to help better serve our busy community!
Have you ever been watching a sporting event when someone gets injured on the field or ice and someone from the bench, dugout or sidelines comes out to rapidly respond to their injury? Well, that was more than likely an Athletic Therapist! Athletic Therapists are trained in a wide variety of musculoskeletal injuries ranging anywhere from concussions, sprained ankles, back pain and everything in-between.
An Athletic Therapist must graduate from an accredited institution (only 8 in Canada!) before they can become eligible to write the National Certification exam. During their schooling an Athletic Therapy student must take classes like physiology, assessment and rehabilitation, therapeutic exercise, emergency conditions and biomechanics just to name a few. These classes prepare an Athletic Therapist to assess and treat countless injuries and to manage any emergency situations that could come their way!
So, who do Athletic Therapists treat? Everyone! Their skill set allows them to tend to weekend warriors who want to work in their garden, your elderly neighbour who needs a little help carrying in her groceries, elite athletes looking to compete in a major game and those looking to resume their active lifestyle after suffering an injury that required surgery. An Athletic Therapist will work with you to set realistic goals to meet your specific needs.
There are now many companies who have included athletic therapy as a part of the extended health benefits package for their employees (like they do physiotherapy or chiropractic care). If you are not certain if you have coverage for athletic therapy in your benefits, please contact your human resources department or benefit provider for more information. If you are interested in a Saturday appointment with Caitlin, or for more information about our services, please contact Impact Physiotherapy & Performance at (519) 843-3961 or by email: firstname.lastname@example.org
